All About Heating Swimming Pools
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

Swimming pools are great for some tropical fun. The problem is, not all swimming pools are situated in residences with tropical climates. Sometimes, the weather is just too darn cold that swimming in the pool will prove to be an unbearably punishing experience. A mere dip of your toes will make your entire body shiver, especially if attempted in the middle of the winter season.

The solution? Just like hot baths during a chilly weather, you can always resort to heating swimming pools. This can be accomplished, of course, via a water heating system specially built for swimming pools. Heating swimming pools through this method can be accomplished by means of gas pump, or by means of heat pump. Each of these options have their own pros and cons. In a nutshell...

Gas pump:

* More affordable to set up.
* Easier to integrate in your swimming pool setup
* Eventual maintenance will depend on fluctuating gas prices worldwide, which is not really secure.

Heat pump:

* More affordable in the long run.
* Cost depends on energy consumption of particular models.
* More expensive to set up.

In choosing the best method on heating swimming pools which will be perfect for your needs, do consider the following factors beforehand:

* How often will you be using the heating system? In areas experiencing cold climate the whole year, you'd need a heating system that is not only durable, but one which will also entail low maintenance costs to keep your expenses to a minimum.

* How big, or how small, is your pool? The size of your pool will also dictate the kind of system you will need in heating swimming pools. Bigger pools will require more heat, which will in turn require more gas or more power, depending on what heating system you are considering. The diameters of your swimming pool are not the only factors at play here. The depth of the same should also be taken into consideration.

* Will you be using your pool during the colder months? If you're living in an area with hot summers, during which time you find yourself using the pool the most, how much will you be using your pool during the colder winter months? If you're not planning on using your pool come the winter, heating its water would just be superfluous.

A heating system is not always necessary. Try to determine beforehand if this is really what you need.
